Nenagh Arts Centre hosts the inaugural Tipperary Film Festival from Friday, 11 September to Sunday, 13 September 2026, centred on the centre itself and Banba Square in the middle of the town. The festival is open to filmmakers of any age or experience, from first-time makers working on a smartphone to full production teams, and runs a prize pool of €5,000 across more than 20 award categories. Entry to screenings is free.
The festival was founded by Nancy O’Donoghue, Jake Mitchell and Seanpaul Fitzpatrick and is being run through Nenagh Arts Centre, with submissions handled via FilmFreeway. Categories span local and national history, drama, documentary, comedy, horror and sci-fi, animation, folklore, community voices, and environmental and rural life, with separate strands for young filmmakers and for senior filmmakers, so the programme is not limited to conventional festival fare. Over the weekend expect a run of public screenings blocked by category, likely alongside filmmaker talks and an awards session given the scale of the prize pool. Because this is a first edition, the exact running order was still being finalised at the time of writing, but the venue and dates are confirmed. As an inaugural event built around the arts centre and the square outside it, it has the scope to become a fixture of the county’s autumn calendar if the first year lands well.
Nenagh Arts Centre and Banba Square sit in the middle of Nenagh, an easy walk from the town’s main car parks and the Pearse Street bus stop. Nenagh is on the Dublin-Limerick road and rail line, with regular Bus Éireann and Irish Rail services.
