At Loy Street · Loy Street, Cookstown, Co. Tyrone
The Society of St Vincent de Paul’s Cookstown conference runs its annual family bus trip to Portrush on Tuesday, 4 August 2026, departing Loy Street at 9am and returning by 5pm the same day. It is a long-standing piece of charitable outreach by the local SVP, giving families in the parish a subsidised day at the seaside that some might not otherwise be able to afford, rather than a fundraising event in itself. Booking is by deposit, with a closing date well ahead of the trip to allow the SVP to plan numbers and transport.
The coach leaves Loy Street in Cookstown at 9am and heads for Portrush on the north Antrim coast, one of Northern Ireland’s best-known seaside towns, with its beaches, amusements and harbour front. Families spend the day there before the coach departs for the return journey, arriving back in Cookstown by around 5pm. The trip is aimed squarely at families with children, and the SVP requires that all children under 16 be accompanied by a parent or guardian throughout. A £10 deposit per family secures a place, with the closing date for booking falling on 20 July 2026, well before the trip itself, so families interested in going are advised not to leave booking to the last minute. As with most SVP-run outings, the emphasis is on making a day away accessible rather than on the trip being a profit-making event.
The trip departs from Loy Street in Cookstown town centre, with families meeting there ahead of the 9am departure. All travel to and from Portrush is by coach as part of the organised trip, so no separate transport is needed once a place is booked.
Cookstown’s wide main street runs close to Loy Street, making it easy to grab a coffee before an early start on the day of the trip. There is more to see in Cookstown and across Co. Tyrone.
