CHEXS Family Fun Day

At Grundy Park · Dungannon, Co. Tyrone

CHEXS Family Fun Day at Grundy Park

A community summer fair with rides, games, food stalls and live entertainment - the CHEXS Family Fun Day at Grundy Park is an afternoon out that earns its keep. Running from 12:30pm to 8pm, it gives families a proper stretch of the day rather than a rushed couple of hours. CHEXS is a local family support organisation with roots in the community, and this annual event is very much a celebration of that - relaxed, informal and pitched at all ages from toddlers to grandparents.

What to expect

Grundy Park in Dungannon is the setting, and the format is a classic summer fair: fairground-style rides, a spread of games and activities for children, market and craft stalls, food and drink, and entertainment running through the afternoon and into the evening. The €5 ticket price covers entry, so once you’re in you can pick and choose at your own pace without the event feeling like a constant queue for your wallet. With seven and a half hours on the clock, there is room to arrive mid-afternoon, let the children run around, grab something to eat, and still catch the later entertainment. Younger children tend to gravitate to the games and rides early on; older kids and adults tend to linger as the evening entertainment gets going. Bring layers - July evenings in Tyrone cool off faster than the afternoon promises.

Getting there

Dungannon sits at the junction of the A4 and A29, roughly equidistant between Belfast and Omagh, making it an easy reach from most of Co. Tyrone and the wider mid-Ulster area. From Belfast, it is about 45 minutes on the M1 motorway. From Derry/Londonderry, take the A5 south and pick up the A4 east - roughly an hour. Translink operates bus services into Dungannon from Belfast and surrounding towns, though the 12:30pm start gives you flexibility around timetables. Grundy Park has on-site parking, which is the practical option for families with young children or anyone bringing pushchairs and bags for the day.

While you’re in Dungannon

Dungannon is one of mid-Ulster’s main market towns, with the ruins of the old O’Neill clan stronghold on the hill above the town giving it a deeper history than most visitors expect. If you want to make a full day of it before the fun day kicks off, Dungannon Park - a 70-acre public park with a lake, walking trails and a children’s play area - is a few minutes from the town centre and well worth an hour in the morning. There is more to see in Dungannon and across Co. Tyrone.
