Cookstown Twelfth Demonstration

At Grange Road Assembly Field · Grange Road Assembly Field, Cookstown, Co. Tyrone

Cookstown Twelfth Parade 2026

The Twelfth of July demonstration in Cookstown is one of the largest Orange Order parades in Co. Tyrone, drawing lodges and bands from right across the mid-Ulster district. In 2026 the Twelfth falls on a Sunday, so the Cookstown demonstration moves to Monday 13 July - giving visitors who travel a distance the chance to make a weekend of it. This is a long-established public spectacle: brass and flute bands, colourful lodge banners, and a crowd that lines the streets from noon. It suits anyone with an interest in Ulster’s parading tradition, people watching on a summer’s day, and families looking for a free outdoor event.

What to expect

The parade assembles at Grange Road Assembly Field and steps off at noon. Tamlaghtmore Ark of Safety LOL 469 leads the column, accompanied by Tamlaghtmore Silver Band. Behind them come over 40 bands and six Junior Boys Lodges representing the Orange Districts of Killyman, Stewartstown, Castlecaulfield, Pomeroy, Coagh, and Benburb - a gathering that pulls together communities from a wide swathe of mid-Ulster. The column arrives at the Demonstration Field on East Circular Road around 2pm, where platform proceedings take place. The return parade follows later in the afternoon. You will hear a range of band styles - silver bands, accordion bands, and flute bands - and see lodge banners bearing local emblems and biblical scenes, many of them decades old.

Getting there

Cookstown sits at the junction of the A29 and A505, roughly equidistant from Dungannon to the south and Maghera to the north. From Belfast the journey is around an hour on the M1 and A29. Translink runs bus services from Dungannon and Magherafelt into Cookstown; on parade day it is worth checking Translink’s website for any adjusted timetables. In town, Cookstown’s Main Street - officially the longest and widest main street in Northern Ireland - means there is usually street-side space to take in the parade on foot. Parking is available in the town’s public car parks, though arriving early on the day is sensible as roads near the assembly and demonstration fields can fill up.

While you’re in Cookstown

Cookstown is a good base for the Lough Neagh shoreline at Ballyronan Marina and for the Beaghmore Stone Circles, a remarkable Bronze Age complex just west of the town. The Burnavon Arts and Cultural Centre on Burn Road runs a regular programme through the summer. There is more to see in Cookstown and across Co. Tyrone.
