Walk Together for ALONE, Celtic Camino Fundraising Challenge

What to Expect

ALONE brings its own fundraising walk to the Boyne Valley Camino on Saturday 26 September 2026, setting off from St Peter’s Parish Church on West Street in Drogheda at 10am for a 25km circular route that takes most of the day to complete. The walk follows riverside trails, woodland paths, country roads and canal paths around the figure of eight Boyne Valley loop, passing Old Mellifont Abbey, Townley Hall Woods and Oldbridge, with roughly 1,300 feet of elevation gain over the full circuit. Organisers rate the walk easy to moderate, and registration includes an event t-shirt, an official Celtic Camino passport and a goodie bag, with the day expected to run through until around 6:30pm for the last finishers.

Funds raised go directly to ALONE, the national charity that works to prevent and address loneliness and isolation among older people in Ireland, supporting them to age at home with dignity through befriending services, housing with support, and a national telephone support and referral line. Participants are asked to commit to raising a minimum of 300 euro through an individual fundraising page in addition to registering for the walk itself, with ALONE’s own material framing every euro raised as going directly toward services for older people around the country. The Boyne Valley Camino has hosted a series of these charity-branded walks for different causes since the trail’s completion, and this is one of several dated walks other groups have separately organised on the same route this year, each with its own beneficiary.

Getting There

St Peter’s Parish Church is on West Street in Drogheda town centre, close to the Scotch Hall shopping centre and within walking distance of Drogheda train station on the Dublin to Belfast line. The town is just off the M1 motorway, with regular Bus Éireann coaches serving Drogheda from Dublin, Dundalk and Belfast.
