Cahir Farmers Market trades every Saturday morning in the car park beside Cahir Castle, one of Ireland’s best-preserved Norman castles, which gives the market one of the more striking backdrops of any weekly market in the county. Local growers, bakers and food producers set up from 9am to 1pm, selling produce grown and made within the region. It has its own dedicated website and phone line, a sign of a market with an established committee behind it.
Stalls typically include fresh vegetables, some of it vegetarian and vegan friendly, freshly baked bread, local meats, seasonal fruit, juices, cider vinegar and a range of cheeses. The market runs in the open-air car park directly beside the castle walls, so the setting is part of the appeal, browsing stalls with the Norman keep rising behind them. It operates year round on Saturdays, with the usual seasonal shift in produce, more soft fruit and vegetables through summer, root vegetables and preserves into autumn. Entry and browsing are free, and vendors deal directly in cash.
Cahir sits on the N24, roughly midway between Clonmel and Cashel, with regular Bus Eireann services stopping in the town. The Castle car park is a short walk from Cahir’s main square, and the market shares the car park with visitors to Cahir Castle itself, so it can get busy on fine Saturdays.
