At Cavan International Equestrian Centre · Latt, Cavan, H12 X9K1, Co. Cavan
The Cavan Indoor Championships is one of the most significant fixtures in the Irish show jumping calendar - a six-day event that draws competitors, breeders and horse enthusiasts from across the island and further afield. If you follow the equestrian world at all, or if you simply enjoy watching horses and riders work at the top of their discipline, this is a genuinely good week to be in Cavan. The 2026 edition runs Tuesday 8 to Sunday 13 September at the Cavan International Equestrian Centre in Latt, just outside Cavan town.
The Cavan International Equestrian Centre is a serious facility - three indoor arenas (the largest running 72m x 55m), two outdoor all-weather arenas, three grass arenas, and around 450 permanent stables. Show jumping classes run across the week at various levels, which means there is almost always something happening in one of the halls. The atmosphere builds towards the weekend as the senior and more competitive classes take centre stage.
A highlight this year is the Elite Foal Sale on Thursday 10 September - a bloodstock auction where young horses bred for jumping are assessed and sold. For anyone involved in breeding or buying horses, this alone is worth the trip. For spectators, it is a fascinating glimpse into how the sport looks forward, beyond the arena.
On-site you will find Boomerangs restaurant and a bar, the Cladem Equi-store (a large equestrian shop stocked with tack, clothing and equipment), and competitor shower facilities. Entry prices and class schedules vary across the week - check cavanequestrian.com before you go for the current timetable.
Cavan town sits on the N3, the main road running north from Dublin through the midlands. The drive from Dublin takes around 90 minutes; from Belfast it is roughly the same via the A3/N54. The equestrian centre is at Latt, a short distance from town, signposted from the N3. There is a large hardcore truck and car park on site, so parking is rarely an issue during events.
Bus Éireann runs regular services on the Dublin - Cavan route (route 30). From Cavan town, the centre is a short taxi or lift away.
Cavan town is compact and easy to spend half a day in - there are decent cafes, independent shops, and the cathedral is worth a look. The wider county is lake country, with Lough Oughter and its castle ruins an easy drive from town. There is more to see in Cavan and across Co. Cavan.
