What to Expect

Crafty Traders Market takes over Woolworks, a wool and fabric shop at Ballymakenny Business Park on the edge of Drogheda, on the last Saturday of every month. It is a curated market of local makers and small businesses rather than a general car boot or car-park sale, with a changing line-up of handmade gifts, artisan products, jewellery, artwork, home decor and baked goods each month. Admission is free, and the organisers describe it as a chance to shop small and support local crafters directly rather than buy through a shop or online marketplace. Traders pay a stall fee of between 15 and 20 euro to take part, which keeps the market to people who are seriously making and selling their own work rather than clearing out a garage. Woolworks itself, as host, gives the market a slightly different character to a purely outdoor or car boot event, since it runs from inside a working craft and fabric shop rather than a hall or car park hired just for the day.

Getting There

Ballymakenny Business Park is on the Ballymakenny Road on the edge of Drogheda, a short drive from the town centre and the M1 motorway. Drogheda is well served from Dublin by both the Dublin-Belfast rail line, with a journey time of around 45 minutes from Dublin Connolly, and by the M1, which puts the town under an hour from Dublin and around 90 minutes from Belfast. The business park has its own car parking, which is the most practical way to reach a Saturday market on the edge of town rather than in the pedestrianised centre.
