At Benny's Music Venue · 37 Main Street, Bailieborough, Co. Cavan
Two of the most respected tribute acts on the Irish circuit share one stage for a Saturday night that covers the full sweep of classic Irish rock. Deuce brings the raw, blues-drenched guitar of Rory Gallagher back to life, while Shades of Lizzy serve up the twin-guitar swagger of Thin Lizzy at their peak. Together they make a strong case for why Irish rock of the 1970s still sounds better than almost anything that followed it. If you grew up on “Whiskey in the Jar” or spent any time in a record shop holding a copy of Irish Tour ‘74, this is an evening that will mean something.
Doors open at 9:30pm with music from 10pm through to 1am - a proper late night, not a polished seated affair. The running order puts both bands on across the night, though expect the room to fill fast once word spreads: this double bill has toured venues across Ireland through 2026, playing Mullingar and Castlebar among others, and has built a following of loyal rock fans who turn up in numbers.
Deuce are a three-piece committed to the Gallagher catalogue - the unadorned, high-energy style that made Rory one of the most admired live performers in rock history. Shades of Lizzy take on the harder task of filling the sound of Thin Lizzy, a band built on the interplay of two lead guitars and Phil Lynott’s unmistakeable voice. The venue is Benny’s Music Venue on Bailieborough’s Main Street, a dedicated live music room that also runs a Metallica tribute and other rock nights - this is not a function room pressed into service, but a place set up for nights like this one.
Tickets are €15 and upwards, available on Eventbrite. QR code entry is used at the door, so have your ticket on your phone or printed.
Bailieborough sits in east Cavan, roughly 35km east of Cavan town and easily reached via the R165. From Dublin it is about an hour and a quarter by road, coming up through Kells on the N3 and cutting across. Navan is the nearest larger town to the south. There is on-street parking along and around Main Street, which is where Benny’s sits at number 37.
Public transport options to Bailieborough are limited on a Saturday night, so most people drive or arrange a lift. Taxis operate locally in the town.
Bailieborough is a compact east Cavan market town with a handful of pubs and good food options for an early dinner before the gig. The surrounding Cavan drumlin country is worth a look in daylight if you are coming from further afield. There is more to see in Bailieborough and across Co. Cavan.
