The Stradbally Woodland Railway is the oldest volunteer-run heritage railway on the island of Ireland. The 1 km line runs through beautiful woodland on a scenic loop with leisurely 15-minute journeys. Visitors can enjoy diesel trains pulled by Rusty for the first hour, then steam trains with locomotive Róisín for the rest of the day. The Stemin’ Brews Coffee shop serves refreshments, and there is seating beside the tracks ideal for family picnics on summer days. Private group bookings available for families and clubs.
Open every bank holiday weekend and selected other dates from Easter to Halloween, operating March to August. Featured in National Heritage Week August 15-23, 2026. Special seasonal events include the Santa Train during Christmas for a joyful, steam-powered family experience.
