Nenagh Cattle Mart

Nenagh Mart on Stafford Street has been part of the North Tipperary farming calendar since it opened in 1957, with bidding starting at 8am sharp every Tuesday morning. It operates as part of Central Auctions Co-Operative Marts alongside Birr and Roscrea, giving it a catchment that reaches well beyond the town and its immediate hinterland.

What to expect

The Tuesday ring sees store cattle, weanlings, breeding stock and finished cattle sold in quick succession, with factory agents and independent buyers competing alongside local farmers for a strong clearance rate week to week. Throughput shifts with the season, and summer sales in particular tend to bring a good run of store cattle as farmers adjust numbers after grazing. The atmosphere is practical rather than a spectacle, short exchanges and prices called fast, and there is no charge to attend as a visitor and watch the sale, though the yards are a working environment and sturdy footwear is worth wearing.

Getting there

Nenagh sits on the N7 roughly halfway between Limerick and Dublin, about 35 minutes from Limerick and 90 minutes from Dublin. The mart is on Stafford Street close to the town centre, with parking available on site, and Bus Eireann serves Nenagh on the Limerick to Dublin route.
