At Droichead Arts Centre · Stockwell Street, Drogheda, Co. Louth
Dublin duo Phoeno bring their distinctive electro-indie sound to Drogheda on a Friday night in July, playing an intimate set in the cafe-bar at Droichead Arts Centre as part of the Night Moves Summer Series. If you want to hear new Irish music in a relaxed, unhurried setting - close enough to see exactly what the musicians are doing - this is a good night to be in town. It suits anyone who likes music with atmosphere and emotional weight but doesn’t want a venue that feels like a nightclub.
Phoeno are vocalist Adam Matthews and composer Liam Corbett. They spent years building their sound in a small industrial unit in Dublin 15, leaning into drum machines, synths and samples while holding onto a pop and indie guitar sensibility. The result has drawn comparisons to Depeche Mode and Tears for Fears in the electronics, Wild Beasts and Nine Inch Nails in the atmosphere. Their debut album, Comfort in the Knowing, came out in 2026 and explores isolation, friendship, grief and the fragile possibility of renewal - it was reviewed by the Irish Times in April and made something of an impression.
The Night Moves Summer Series is an ongoing Droichead programme, curated by singer/songwriter SJ McArdle and produced in collaboration with Drogheda’s Night-Time Economy Adviser. The idea is a more balanced, culturally rich evening - intimate gigs across the summer, set in the cafe-bar and gallery space rather than a formal concert hall. Expect a close-up show, a bar to drink at, and no corporate-venue distance between you and the music. The capacity is small, which means you should book rather than turn up on the night.
Droichead Arts Centre is on Stockwell Street in central Drogheda, close to the town’s main streets. Drogheda is well served by rail - the Dublin to Belfast Enterprise line stops here, and the journey from Dublin Connolly takes around 40 minutes. Bus Eireann services connect from Dublin, Dundalk and other points on the Louth coast. If you’re driving, Drogheda has several town-centre car parks off West Street and the surrounding streets; the venue is a short walk from most of them.
Drogheda is a medieval port town on the River Boyne with a strong arts scene, good independent restaurants, and the Millmount heritage site a short walk from the town centre.
