At Elphin Day Centre (departure point) · Elphin, Co. Roscommon
Elphin day centre’s next group outing takes members to Carrick-on-Shannon on Thursday, August 13th, 2026, with a private trip on the Moon River cruise boat followed by lunch in Cryan’s. It is a one-off trip rather than a recurring date, part of the day centre’s ongoing programme of outings and activities for local older people, and it comes with spaces still available at the time of the parish’s local notes going to print.
The day is built around a private sailing on the Moon River, one of the passenger cruise boats that runs scenic trips along the Shannon from Carrick-on-Shannon, followed by a sit-down lunch in Cryan’s in the town. It is a social outing rather than a strenuous one, aimed at giving day centre members a change of scene and company for the day, and transport and the day’s arrangements are organised through the day centre itself rather than needing to be booked independently. Anyone interested in taking part, or in finding out more about the day centre’s wider services, is encouraged to get in touch directly rather than turning up on the day.
The outing departs from Elphin in north County Roscommon; contact the day centre in advance for pick-up arrangements. Carrick-on-Shannon itself sits just over the county boundary in Leitrim, a short drive from Elphin via Cootehall or Croghan.
Elphin and the surrounding Croghan and Drumlion area have plenty else on through August, including a weekly bingo night, Tidy Towns volunteer mornings and traditional music sessions in the Tower Inn, all part of Co. Roscommon’s community calendar.
