At The Spirit Store · Georges Quay, Dundalk, Co. Louth, A91 NR79
Vittorio Angelone is one of those comics who makes you feel slightly guilty for laughing, which is precisely what makes him worth the drive. The Belfast stand-up brings his Edinburgh Fringe hit You Can’t Say Nothing Any More to Dundalk on a 2026 UK and Ireland tour that also takes in Dublin, Glasgow, Manchester and a headline slot at Hammersmith’s Eventim Apollo. His Edinburgh run at Monkey Barrel sold out entirely, with two extra shows added at the Underbelly McEwan Hall to meet demand. That kind of word-of-mouth does not happen by accident. This is an evening for anyone who enjoys comedy that pushes back at easy certainties, and that does it with caustic wit and genuine warmth in equal measure.
The show takes its title seriously. Angelone grew up in Belfast in the generation that came after the Troubles, and he builds his hour around whether comedians have any obligation to be activists - to speak out on Gaza, on climate, on the culture war - or whether a laugh is already enough. The Edinburgh run opened with paid protestors outside the venue trying to persuade audience members to leave, which sets the tone: this is not a gig that plays it safe, but it earns every provocation. Reviews praised his “caustic wit” combined with real poignancy, with five-star notices from The Student and Forge Press, and strong write-ups from Chortle, the Mail on Sunday and Broadway Baby. Expect sharp material, a comedian clearly in his prime, and an intimate room where no-one is far from the stage.
The Spirit Store is the right venue for it. The upstairs room at Georges Quay is compact enough that the audience feels like part of the conversation rather than spectators in a theatre, which suits Angelone’s style well.
Dundalk is on the main Dublin - Belfast rail corridor and is well served by Irish Rail, with regular services from Dublin Connolly (around 1 hour) and Belfast Great Victoria Street. The Spirit Store is on Georges Quay, a short walk from Dundalk railway station - head towards the town centre and follow the quayside south. If you are driving, Dundalk sits just off the M1 motorway and there is street parking along the quays and in nearby car parks in the town centre. The show starts at 19:30, so parking is generally straightforward on a Friday evening once you arrive with a few minutes to spare.
The quays area has good bars and a few decent spots for food before the show. There is more to see in Dundalk and across Co. Louth.
