The Logues Live at The Imperial Bar Cavan

At The Imperial Bar and Nightclub · 47 Main Street, Townparks, Cavan Town, Co. Cavan

The Logues performing live at The Imperial Bar and Nightclub, Cavan Town

If you want to know what happens when folk music stops behaving itself, The Logues are the answer. This five-piece from Castlederg, Co. Tyrone have built a devoted following across Ireland and Europe on the back of live shows that blend trad instrumentation - banjo, mandolin, tin whistle - with rock energy and a streak of irreverence their fans call “psycho-ceilidh”. One promoter once called them “the most progressive folk band in Ireland”, and anyone who has seen them will have a difficult time arguing with that. On Saturday 8 July 2026 they bring that reputation to The Imperial Bar and Nightclub on Cavan’s Main Street - one of the country’s most celebrated live music venues.

What to expect

The Logues formed on St. Patrick’s Day 2006, initially as a one-off favour, and never really stopped. Since then they have released albums including Tough at the Bottom (2011) and Comin’ of Age (2016), toured Europe and North America, and developed a live show that is hard to categorise and harder to forget. Expect high-energy sets, strong vocals, tight arrangements and moments that tip from folk into something closer to folk-punk. The BBC Northern Ireland once singled out frontman Logan McCool’s stage presence as potentially the next internet meme - which tells you something about the atmosphere.

The Imperial is the right room for it. Named the IMRO National Live Music Venue of the Year 2024, the family-run venue has been a fixture on Cavan’s Main Street for over 20 years. The upstairs nightclub fills quickly for ticketed live-band nights, so arriving before doors is a good idea. Tickets are from €15 on Ticketstop, and this type of show typically sells out.

Getting there

Cavan Town is about 110 km from Dublin, roughly 90 minutes by car via the N3 or N55. Bus Eireann runs regular services from Dublin Busaras to Cavan Town, with the journey taking around two hours. The Imperial is at 47 Main Street, a short walk from the bus stop in the town centre. Street parking is available in the town in the evening, and there are car parks within a few minutes on foot.

While you’re in Cavan

Cavan Town itself is a pleasant stop - the Cavan Crystal Hotel, the town’s walking trails and the nearby Killykeen Forest Park all give reason to make a weekend of it. There is more to see in Cavan and across Co. Cavan.
