At The TLT - Prop Room · Matthews Lane, Drogheda, Co. Louth, A92 NF77
The TLT Academy’s Summer Music Camp gives young musicians a week inside one of the north-east’s best-equipped performing arts venues. Based in the Prop Room - the TLT’s intimate 250-capacity studio space rather than the 900-seat main hall - it is a chance for children and teenagers to get proper instrument time, work with experienced teachers, and do it all in a professional environment that most young musicians never see the inside of. If your child already has a few lessons behind them, or is curious about picking up something new, a residential-style camp in a working concert venue is a step up from a school hall.
The TLT Academy runs year-round music education out of the same building where national and international acts perform. The Prop Room opened in 2021 as a separate, more flexible space - acoustically suited to small groups and rehearsals as well as ticketed gigs - and it is this room that hosts the summer camp. The Academy’s regular programme covers piano, guitar, bass, ukulele, drums, cajon, violin, banjo, mandolin and vocals, with the emphasis on personalised tuition, confidence-building and creative collaboration. The summer camp runs on the same foundations. Full details on age groups, duration and pricing are on the booking page at thetlt.ie or by phone on 041 9878560 - worth checking early as places are limited in a venue space of this size.
Drogheda is on the main Dublin-Belfast road and rail corridor, so getting here is straightforward from most of Leinster and Ulster. By train, Drogheda MacBride station sits on the Enterprise and commuter lines (about 50 minutes from Dublin Connolly). By road, the M1 motorway brings you to the Drogheda junctions in under an hour from the city. The TLT is signposted from the town centre on Matthews Lane, close to the East Coast Business Park on the southern approach to Drogheda - roughly ten minutes’ walk from the main shopping streets. There is surface car parking at the venue.
Dropping off or collecting a camper gives you a few hours in a town with a lot going on - the Millmount Museum, the Battle of the Boyne site, and a good stretch of independent cafes and restaurants along West Street. There is more to see in Drogheda and across Co. Louth.
