Pomeroy Forest, a small woodland park in the Sperrins foothills between Omagh, Cookstown and Dungannon, is hosting an outdoor stand-up comedy night on Friday, 21 August, a departure from the theatre and arts centre bills that usually carry touring comedy in Co. Tyrone. The headline act is Diona Doherty, a regular panellist on the comedy show Blame Game, whose 2025 Edinburgh Festival Fringe show Get Your Pink Back drew strong reviews and has continued selling out venues across the UK and Ireland since. She is joined by Dave Elliot, a stand-up comedian, actor and writer known for his role in the BBC drama Blue Lights and for hosting the Sly Guy Podcast, appearing here in his stand-up capacity with an observational style. Sean Hegarty, an established name on the Northern Ireland stand-up circuit with his own touring shows, hosts the night, with support from up and coming comedian Wafa Daldoul opening the bill. Running comedy outdoors in a forest setting is unusual for the region and trades the seated, indoor format of Strule Arts Centre or the Burnavon for something closer to a summer festival atmosphere.
Pomeroy is a village in Co. Tyrone on the A29, roughly midway between Omagh and Cookstown and a short drive from Dungannon, in the foothills of the Sperrin Mountains. The forest park sits close to the village itself, and the surrounding roads are the same routes used for the Sperrins’ hillwalking and cycling trails, so the approach is rural rather than a town centre car park. Anyone travelling from Omagh or Cookstown should allow around 20 to 25 minutes by road. There is more to see across Co. Tyrone.
