Omagh Auction Mart Weekly Livestock Sales

Omagh Auction Mart is County Tyrone’s main livestock market, trading cattle and sheep from farms across the Sperrins and mid Ulster every week of the year. The mart runs three sales a week from its yard on Gillygooly Road, on the edge of Omagh: store and beef cattle, fat cows and calves on Mondays, suckler calves on Wednesdays, and sheep on Saturdays. The Monday cattle sale is usually the largest of the three, drawing buyers and farmers from well beyond Tyrone to the ringside.

What to expect

Farmers bring cattle in from the surrounding parishes early on sale mornings, and the ring runs continuously once bidding opens, with an auctioneer working through pens of store cattle, beef animals, fat cows and calves in turn. Prices are driven by weight, breed and condition, and the mart’s own market reports are published after each sale showing top prices for bullocks, heifers and cows that week. Wednesday’s suckler calf sale caters to smaller breeding enterprises, while Saturday’s sheep sale covers fat lambs, hoggets and breeding ewes depending on the season. Buyers who cannot attend in person can also bid through the mart’s live-streamed online auction platform. It is a working farm business rather than a visitor attraction, but the yard is open to anyone with an interest in farming, and the canteen serves tea and a fry through sale mornings.

Getting there

The mart is on Gillygooly Road on the western edge of Omagh, close to the A5 Omagh to Ballygawley route. There is parking for cars and livestock trailers on site. Omagh town centre, with its bus links across Tyrone and into Donegal, is about a ten-minute walk away.
