Artist Brigid Mulligan’s exhibition 74 Summers opens at Townhall Arts Centre in Cavan town on Saturday, 25 July 2026 and runs through to Friday, 4 September. The show works through grief using process-based rituals rather than conventional painting or photography alone, built around a life-sized cyanotype print installation called My Father’s Tractor, alongside an experimental film of the same title documenting the community project behind it.
The centrepiece is a four-sided, life-sized cyanotype print installation titled My Father’s Tractor, made using the sun-exposed blueprint photographic process rather than paint or ink. It sits alongside an experimental film that documents the making of the piece: Mulligan and members of the local community building a monumental tractor structure and then burning it, turning the process itself into what the gallery describes as an active space for remembering. The work grew out of Mulligan’s own experience of loss, and the exhibition text talks about navigating the space between what is seen and recorded and the more ephemeral presences that linger in a landscape. A raffle for one of the paintings on show runs alongside the exhibition, with proceeds going to the Breffni Blues Special Olympics Club.
Townhall Arts Centre is on Townhall Street in the centre of Cavan town, close to the main shopping streets and within walking distance of the bus station. Cavan town is served by regular Bus Éireann coaches from Dublin, and public parking is available in the town centre car parks nearby.
