Cavan County Council Urban Speed Limit Review 2026 - Public Consultation

Cavan County Council is running a formal review of speed limits in urban areas across the county, covering every town, village and settlement currently subject to a speed limit of 60km/h or less. The review is being carried out under Section 9 of the Road Traffic Act 2004 and departmental speed limit guidelines, and members of the public have until 5pm on Friday 14 August 2026 to make a submission before the council finalises any changes. The consultation opened on 16 July 2026, so residents have had close to a month to look over the proposals before the window closes.

What to expect

This isn’t a public meeting with a set date and time to turn up to; it’s a document-based consultation, with the review materials and maps available for inspection during normal office hours at three municipal district offices: Cavan-Belturbet, Bailieborough-Cootehill and Ballyjamesduff.
