Virginia RFC Home Fixtures 2026-27 Season

At Virginia RFC Ground · Off R194, Virginia, Co. Cavan

Rugby match at Virginia RFC ground in Co. Cavan

Club rugby on the shores of Lough Ramor is a particular kind of Saturday. Virginia RFC has been part of the fabric of this Cavan town since the 1970s, and home fixtures at Deer Park draw a loyal mix of families, former players, and people who simply enjoy watching fifteen-a-side played with genuine local pride. Entry is free, the atmosphere is easy-going, and you do not need to know the finer points of Ulster Branch junior rugby to enjoy the afternoon.

What to expect

Virginia RFC fields senior men’s first and second XVs along with a ladies’ team and an over-35s squad, so weekend home fixtures through the season can involve more than one match on the same afternoon. The club competes in Ulster Branch junior competitions - the season runs from September through to late spring, with most home games falling on Saturday afternoons. The Deer Park ground sits on the edge of Deerpark Forest, which gives the setting a pleasantly green backdrop that you would not normally associate with a club rugby pitch. The club has a strong youth section too, so underage games sometimes precede adult fixtures - worth knowing if you are bringing children along.

Check the fixture schedule on virginiarfc.com before making a trip, as dates shift throughout the season and away weeks are common in the early rounds.

Getting there

Virginia is on the N3 Dublin to Cavan road, roughly 85km north-west of Dublin and 35km south of Cavan town. Bus Eireann operates a service along the N3 corridor - the 30 and X30 routes stop in Virginia, making a day trip from Dublin viable without a car. From Virginia town centre, the rugby ground is a short drive or a 15-minute walk: take the Ballyjamesduff Road (R194) for about 1.2km and the club entrance is signposted on the left alongside Deerpark Forest. Parking is available at the ground.

While you’re in Virginia

Lough Ramor sits at the edge of town - an 800-hectare lake good for coarse fishing, a lakeside walk, or an hour at the Ramor Watersports marina. The Ramor Theatre, the only professional performance venue in Co. Cavan, is also in Virginia and often has something on at weekends. There is more to see in Virginia and across Co. Cavan.
